About Down the Rabbit Hole
The real, untold, and unvarnished story of life inside the legendary Playboy Mansion—and the man who holds the key—from the woman who was Hef’s #1 girlfriend and star of The Girls Next Door.
A spontaneous decision at age twenty-one transformed small-town Oregon girl Holly Sue Cullen into Holly Madison, Hugh Hefner’s #1 girlfriend. But like Alice in Wonderland after she plunged down the rabbit hole, what seemed like a fairytale life inside the Playboy Mansion—including A-list celebrity parties and her own #1-rated television show—quickly devolved into an oppressive routine of strict rules, manipulation, and battles with ambitious, backstabbing bunnies. Losing her identity, her sense of self-worth, and her hope for the future, Holly found herself sitting alone in a bathtub contemplating suicide.
But instead of ending her life, Holly chose to take charge of it.
In this shockingly candid and surprisingly moving memoir, this thoughtful and introspective woman opens up about life inside the Mansion, the drugs, the sex and the infamous parties, as well as what her relationships with her Girls Next Door co-stars, Bridget and Kendra were really like. Holly talks candidly about a subsequent abusive relationship, her own successful television series, and the hard work of healing, including her turn on Dancing with the Stars. A cautionary tale and a celebration of personal empowerment, Down the Rabbit Hole reminds us of the importance of fighting for our dreams—and finding the life we deserve.
As a fan of the Girls Next Door I found this to be eye opening. When I watched the show I wasn’t a fan of Holly but following her on social media I became a fan through her love for Disney, HP, and spooky things. Truthfully I didn’t know reality TV was THIS scripted. I often found myself unable to stop reading this book and haven’t finished a book this fast in years.
Well written and fun
I’ve always been so intrigued by watching the girls next door and following the girls afterwards. It was so nice to know what being in your 20’s during the pivotal time or being thin with big boobs and strutting your body was like. Very well written and makes me respect Holly more!
Loved it & the pictures at the end
I wasn’t sure about this book at first. I mean it was a prior playboy model writing a book. Enough said, right!? Wrong! The reason why Holly Madison was the first in line of the “Girlfriend’s of Heff” was because she was smart and she was fast, and witty, relatable, and a fantastic person. She was always great to watch on “The Girls Next Door” with the other 2 ladies. After that show I had always hoped she would do great things. And of course she didn’t disappoint. She became relevant and she became a star all on her own! So she isn’t just another Playboy Model! She is much much more and I am so happy that she wrote this book about the Mansion Days and Beyond! I promise you will not be able to put it down like I was unable to! Thank You Holly for writing this book and can’t wait to read the next one!
But what I love more is the name down the rabbit hole that’s why I love so much and the story is so amazing
Her honesty is what really makes me connect with the author. It gives me a different view of mansion life.
This was a lot of “you probably think this happened, but actually this happened, instead.” Covering her tracks and I just felt like I was being manipulated the entire read.
I had a hard time putting this book down. It is well written and very entertaining.
I found this book while browsing thru B&N and I was hooked ! Haven’t read a book in a while but this book has me back in the swing of things! Sooo JUICY!
This was not in my genre really didn't think I would read the whole book. It caught me by suprise. The stuff about Criss unfortunately I have lost respect for the guy.
Holly I love you so much and finally taking the time to hear (read) your story is something I should have done when you first published it! You’re fantastic inside and out!!
This book was so detailed and precise to a tea. I couldn’t put it down (and I don’t normally make reviews). Holly addresses almost every headline/rumor addressed in the media about her life, loves, and “friends” (aside from Bridget). She holds nothing back. There were parts in the book I read cringing to myself, “Did she really just say that”. Her ability to showcase herself with such a raw persona allows her readers to connect to her struggles making her a character to root for almost in a fairytale but in the sense of a cold harsh reality.
I loved this book and couldn’t put it down! I definitely recommend reading it!
I had wanted for a while to read this book and I could not be happier with the purchase. So many things make sense to me now. I had NO IDEA her life at the mansion was so terrible. Holly always, and still does, came across a genuine person with an incredibly kind soul. Shame on all those people who treated her badly. It literally brought tears to my eyes while reading the end that I had to keep stopping to clean my eyes because I couldn’t see the words clearly! I am so happy this beautiful woman found her happily ever after. She sure deserved it!
Any thought that Hugh Hefner was instrumental in the empowerment of women is shut down by this book. Maybe in theory but bottom line- creepy old man. Holly holds nothing back and I read this book in a day. A great tell-all and look into the lives of those beautiful women chosen to grace the pages of Playboy.
I can’t believe I’m at the end and finished. I may re-read just to relive the adventure. I could see everything as I read. I laughed, maybe shed some tears, I felt for Holly and wished I could have been there as a shoulder to cry on. I know how she must have felt. And the Girls Next Door was popular because of the girls in it! Not Hef. It was never his. I wish all the best to Holly and her family. You Cinderella, have found your happiness. I hope more happiness comes your way. And I hope you see this review. This book is worth buying and was worth the wait for me to buy. I’m sad i finished reading it! Now for Vegas Diaries!!!(also by Holly Madison)
I could not put my phone down for days. I absolutely love this book!
I enjoyed this book.
Book kept me intrigued but I felt she jumped around a lot. The excessive use of exclamation points got a little annoying. She talks about how she was bullied by these women but also puts them down in her own way. Her struggles and accomplishments are empowering, however.
Although the book did hold my interest it is obviously this woman is just trying to repair her image. Obviously she can't keep friends and her passive aggressive comments about everyone in the book only confirmed that for me. But, I have to give her credit.....she got what she wanted. Really would of had more respect for her if she had just been honest and said "yeah, I slept with this old man for fame and fortune.
Absolutely loved this book. It felt as though I was right there during the stories she tells. Very inspirational.
I remember watching the GND when I was a lot younger, it was one of my favorite shows. After reading this book I watched GND episodes I haven't seen in years, I picked up on things that Holly pointed out in her book. I really didn't think I would enjoy the book as much as I did but I thought it was great. I couldn't put it down, I finished it within about two days.
Love this book! Holly is so real and open. She's so inspiring. Love her
A fun insight into the life of a former playboy bunny. It's not what I expected, enjoyed this book and I couldn't put it down.
This was an okay book I suppose. I was thinking it would be juicer but it was kind of dull. I even found misspellings. "A week letter I received a letter from Hef reprimanding...." It shows page 904 of my iBooks, not sure where it would be in the actual book. But learn how to spell Holly!! 😳
Finished this book in two days, really makes you realize that fame and fortune might not be as glamorous as it seems. Being from Oregon myself it's almost like every girls dream and her story makes you revaluate what you want out of life.
While a lot of people are saying she lied her way through this book, you have to read and think to yourself, "well this does make sense" While I hate to hear the true story I still consider Playboy an amazing old Hollywood iconic brand and Holly to be a wholesome person.
Wish I had not spent the money on this book. Madison whines throughout the whole story about how awful everyone is to her and how nothing is her fault. Even living in the Playboy Mansion is not her decision, to her her tell it. Very boring.
I have no words to explain how much I loved this book. But even more how much I'm thankful Holly was able to share it with us all.
I loved this biography. It was a fun book to read. I felt like I was on an adventure with Holly and I not only enjoyed The Girls Next Door but I'm also very excited that her dreams finally came through. Maybe her next book with share her life with her husband and Rainbow. Hope they all continue to live the real fairy tale and maybe someday she, Kendra and Bridget can become friends again.
What an amazing book! I cried at the end. Some very sad moments, but she handled everything with such grace and truly turned her life around. Loved this book. Beautifully written. Holly, you have a new fan!
This entire book was about Holly feeling bad for herself. She takes absolutely no responsibility for her life and the steps she's taken to end up where she is. Hef took advantage and abused her, the girls were mean bullies and Holly was the sweetest thing being pushed around and abused by everyone but never ever leaving because she was trapped. Grow up. You had no problem accepting all your girls next door paychecks. If you don't like your life, change it. Stop blaming everyone else.
Written poorly. Weak story line. Even with my low expectations, it was really awful.
Wasn't sure what to expect from this book but it was a good read and kept you interested. Though it took a long time, close to 6 months to read. Happy that Holly found true happiness and peace.
I have a new opinion of Holly after reading her book. It was very interesting to read about what life was really like being a part of Playboy. It seemed to be such a glamorous and fun life, but I guess we really don't know what happens behind closed doors! I loved reading this book.
I use to watch these girls all the time and I even watched her show. So I just HAD to read this! I actually listened to her audio book and it was in her voice! It was like she was just telling her story! I loved it! She wrote it very well and has a great story voice! I love how she come out with the truth! Great read!
Great read! Just cannot put ur down. Interesting point of view compared to what media and tv shows.
What a great read!Fascinating!
I had always been a Holly Madison fan... but reading what her life was *really like* inside the mansion, made me love her even more! I rooted for her all the way through and so happy she finally got her fairytale ending. This was such a perfect poolside/beach read, I couldn't put it down until I had devoured every savory page! I can't wait to see more from you, Holly... so hurry up and write another ;)
This book is empowering life affirming, funny, encouraging and amazing.High recommendations on this book and author .Holly gives you an honest look into her life. She holds nothing back and it's awesome, refreshing,Heart warming. Straight and forward but at the same time it felt like she was telling you her truth regardless of the good, the bad,or the ugly.
I couldn't put this book down and finished it in a day. I've always been a fan of Holly Madison ~ even more so now! Fun read and made you feel like you were right there in the mansion with her. It was exciting and truly a trip down the rabbit hole. Loved every minute of it! 👍🏻❤️
Heard of the book somehow (cant remember) and decided to give it ago. I read it in 3 days. Would've finished it sooner but i sadly have a job. Anyways. It was an amazing book. Didn't know who she was a week ago but now i love Holly!
Enjoyed this book. Holly told her story well. I'm telling friends about this book.
Written to a fourth grade level. It's mostly gossipy and whiney. I want my life back! Redeeming quality? Cautionary tale to cute untalented females about the hazards of seeking a sugar daddy. Rarely a good outcome.
If you love reality TV and especially if you watched "The Girls Next Door" you won't be able to put this book down. I appreciated Holly's hindsight perspective, her honesty and message of hope (eventually finding the love of her life and having a beautiful daughter). I would download ASAP, to enjoy a great book.
From the very beginning till the end, this book is interesting, captivating, and emotional. It's so sad to read what truly happened at the playboy mansion & what holly went trough but in the end she got her fairy tail ending. I'm so happy for her. And for those who backstabbed her & did her wrong ( KENDRA & HEF), karma is a b#%^@ & you'll get yours.
